I'd like to get to it in earnest, but I'm afraid...my pair of tentacool can barely even stand being in the same room together! They slap each other with their tentacles until one backs off and goes elsewhere and they sound terribly distressed! They're both wild caught, from different parts of the ocean...

Is there anything I can do to improve their opinion of one another?

I'm certainly not going to end up with eggs like this!

A Ditto would work.

Ditto can transform into a lot of things. Other Pokemon. Rocks. Sometimes people...

Of course it's natural for any living thing to take a disliking to another, but...

There's some Pokemon that can communicate with humans, if you have one of those. Psychics, mostly, and some that can write in our language.

If you can find any of those you could have it ask them what's going on.

There are some things you can do--seek alternatives in the same breeding family, expand your breeding pool via other Pokemon, getting a Ditto, or...

You could ask them why they don't like each other?

Do you know what's caused the rift between them? Have you considered speaking to them about it? I understand that they can't speak back, but Pokémon are surprisingly intelligent creatures, and there must be a reason behind their quarrels.

Alternatively, you could always capture a Psychic type and use them as an interpreter.

It seems they took an instant disliking to each other! I did try to ask, but I can't interpret their responses.

It...seems a bit much to try and coax two creatures into becoming...ah...special friends....

Hmm... Ever thought of handing them a pen and paper? I know at least some Pokémon are intelligent enough to read and write, though I've never tested it with Tentacools.

[Something to look into, perhaps. It'd make for a fascinating entry in his journal.]

Honestly, though, if it isn't working out, then you could always seek alternatives. Let them choose their mates, perhaps. At least then the choice is theirs.
